Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month

This month is Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month. On the Purple Bus we aim to provide the youth service curriculum for all young people. This includes young people from one of Britain’s largest ethnic minority groups, travellers. There are many myths about the culture and history of Gypsy’s and other travellers and whilst I am no expert, I am aware that often these myths and misconceptions lead to prejudice and discrimination.

In the course of our work on the Purple Bus we often find ourselves challenging this prejudice and discrimination. We find that it is often a case of educating young people because they are unaware that their language and actions can be deeply offensive.
